You are currently viewing Need waterproof overtrousers? Here’s three of the best

We needed waterproof overtrousers this morning and very few of us had them.  I’m not surprised.  The recent beautiful weather has lulled us into a false sense of security.

The key with overtrousers is that they are light and breathable.  You do not want to end up with sweaty legs or spoil your walk with overtrousers that are heavy and rigid.  Here are my three choices:

  • Berghaus Paclite Waterproof Trousers.  These are my current overtrousers.  They’re waterproof, light, highly breathable, with an elasticated waistband and  3/4 length water resistant side zips. They are very easy to pack away if you don’t need them (they come with their own mesh net) and I find them easy to put on and take off. They retail at around £130 and you can get them here.
  • Rab Womens Kinetic 2.0 Pants. The Women’s Kinetic 2.0 Pant is designed to eradicate the hassle of repeated layering changes by keeping you comfy, agile and protected. The adjustable elasticated waist uses a secure silicon grip and the ankles and hem use heavier woven reinforcements to increase durability. They retail at £160 but you can currently buy them from Cotswold Outdoor for £128.
  •  Rab Womens Downpour Eco Pants. Another overtrouser. The pant can be pulled on easily over trousers and walking boots in an unexpected shower, thanks to its knee-length side zips and elasticated waistband. And when temperatures rise and the pace quickens, the side zips also enable some welcome extra ventilation.  They retail for £90 and can get them here.
